Crossplay on PC, PS5 and Xbox

Quick Answer

Crossplay is supported between Steam PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Each player still needs game access, internet and working communication; crossplay does not waive console multiplayer requirements.

We Were Here Tomorrow supports crossplay from launch between Steam on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. You and your partner can therefore play on different supported platforms. Each player still needs access to the full game, an internet connection, and working voice communication; crossplay does not supply a second copy or replace console online-play requirements.

Use the session controls shown in your installed game to connect with your partner. The steps below cover the requirements for a shared session; they do not assume a particular friend-code format or invitation-button layout.

Check your platform pairing

These are the announced release platforms for Tomorrow. Do not interpret a series-wide statement about older games being on other systems as confirmation of a Tomorrow release on those systems.

On PC, the Steam listing requires an internet connection and a working PC-compatible microphone. On PS5, online play requires PlayStation Plus. On Xbox, make sure the account has the subscription required for online console multiplayer. A compatible platform pairing cannot override an account's multiplayer restrictions.

Prepare both players before creating a session

  1. Make sure both players have installed We Were Here Tomorrow, rather than a different We Were Here title or an old demonstration build.
  2. Confirm that both can use online multiplayer on their chosen platform.
  3. Connect a working microphone and check the platform's voice-communication permissions.
  4. Open the game's session or lobby options and agree which player will host.
  5. Check the available in-game way to connect to that host. Use the controls actually shown by your installed version.
  6. Once connected, test speech in both directions before progressing into a puzzle.

The official FAQ also confirms that you can create a public lobby and wait for a player to join. It recommends the Steam forums or the official Discord for finding another explorer. Those options establish ways to find a partner; they do not prove a particular account-linking system, room-code format, or cross-platform invitation button.

If the interface offers a direct friend invitation, use it where applicable. Do not assume the Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox friend lists are interchangeable simply because the game supports crossplay.

Check region and communication after connecting

If the two players cannot reach the same lobby, compare the in-game region settings and choose the same appropriate region. Tomorrow's connection guidance specifically recommends checking the region against both your location and your partner's setting.

Once you are together, nearby speech and walkie-talkie speech work at different distances. You hear one another in close proximity; the radios appear automatically outside hearing range. Take turns transmitting rather than both holding the talk control at once.

On Xbox, party chat can redirect microphone focus away from the game. On any console, check that neither player is muted or blocked and that privacy settings permit voice communication. A successful cross-platform connection with silent voice is a communication problem to diagnose, rather than proof that crossplay itself is unsupported.

Keep purchase access separate from crossplay

Tomorrow is an online two-player cooperative game. It has no local split-screen mode, and the launch-period information does not provide a Friend's Pass. Plan for each explorer to have the game on the system they will actually use.

Crossplay confirms that the two versions can play together. It does not confirm that buying one version grants ownership on another platform, that progress transfers between systems, or that a local second controller can replace the second online player. Do not make a purchase based on those additional assumptions.

If a supported pairing still fails

Record both platforms, the host, both server regions, the exact message, and the stage that fails. Distinguish an invitation problem from a lobby that forms but never loads and from a separate voice-server error.

The supported platform list is useful for ruling out one broad misunderstanding. It is not a guarantee that every launch-period connection attempt will succeed, and it should not be used to dismiss a reproducible connection fault.
