Try climbing the Goop stack from another side. A side can fail when there is not enough space between your character and that side of the stack. Moving to another side is the stated solution for this positioning problem; a failed climb from one direction does not prove that your stack is unusable.
This is described as intended behavior. It is separate from the broader known issue that climbing can be inconsistent in some areas, where trying different sides of platforms, blocks, and terrain is also recommended.
Find a side with enough room
- Stop retrying from the side that does not work.
- Move around the stack to a different side.
- Check that your character has room at that face of the blocks.
- Try the climb again from the new approach.
The key change is the approach side. The confirmed guidance gives no universal gap width, stack height limit, jump timing, or button rhythm. Do not rebuild an otherwise useful stack around a guessed measurement.

If one side works and another does not, that is consistent with the space requirement. Keep using the workable approach rather than assuming that every face of a stack must behave identically.
Distinguish positioning from a blocked route
| What you observe | What to try next |
|---|---|
| One side fails while another has more space | Approach and climb from the other side. |
| Climbing feels inconsistent on nearby blocks or platforms | Try different sides of those surfaces as well. |
| You remain unable to progress after changing approach | Recheck the current challenge and consider general checkpoint recovery if you are genuinely blocked. |
Many challenges allow more than one route to a point. Tools, climbing and jumping, or a smaller challenge that creates a platform can provide alternatives in the game. That does not confirm a specific alternate route for the stack in front of you; follow the options actually present in your area.
Recover only if the session remains blocked
If the session is persistently blocked, use main menu → Change → Start New Journey and have the host manually select your last checkpoint. This is general recovery, not the first response to a single unsuccessful climbing angle.
There is no verified requirement to replace Goop, add a fixed number of blocks, or use a special item to make a side climbable. Begin with the documented clearance issue and keep any further puzzle steps tied to what you and your partner can actually see.
